For the past two years, I have been working as a marketing assistant in a large open-plan office. At first, I was excited to work in such a modern environment. The space is bright, with large windows, colorful furniture, and plants scattered around the office. My desk is near the center of the room, surrounded by about 30 other desks. We don’t have walls between us, so everyone works in the same open space. While it encourages communication and teamwork, it also has its challenges.

One of the best parts of working in an open-plan office is the opportunity to collaborate. Whenever I have a question, I can simply turn to my colleagues and ask for advice. For example, last week, I was preparing a presentation for a new product launch. I wasn’t sure how to design the slides, so I asked our graphic designer for help. She gave me great suggestions, and we finished the project much faster by working together.

However, there are also downsides to this type of work environment. Because everyone shares the same space, it can get noisy. Sometimes, people are talking on the phone or having team discussions, and it’s hard to focus on my tasks. I have learned to wear headphones and listen to calming music when I need to concentrate. Another challenge is privacy. If I need to have a confidential conversation, I have to book a meeting room because there’s no private space at my desk.

Despite these issues, I enjoy my job because of the people I work with. Every Friday, we have a „team lunch” where we all eat together and share stories about our week. It’s a great way to relax and strengthen our relationships. My coworkers are supportive and fun, which makes even stressful days easier to manage.

In the future, I hope to grow within the company and take on more responsibilities. Working in an open-plan office has taught me how to adapt to different situations and work with a variety of personalities. It’s not always perfect, but it has helped me become a better communicator and team player.
