TRENING JĘZYKOWY – READING – WORK – Zadanie 4

Starting your own business

Two years ago, I made one of the most important decisions of my life: I left my stable job and started my own business. It wasn’t an easy choice to make, but for a long time, I had been feeling unsatisfied with my work. I was employed as an accountant in a large company. While the job provided financial security, it didn’t give me the creative freedom I craved. Every day felt repetitive, and I started dreaming of doing something more meaningful. That’s when the idea of opening my own bakery came to mind.

For as long as I can remember, I have loved baking. Growing up, I often helped my grandmother in the kitchen, making cakes, cookies, and bread. Over the years, I improved my skills, experimenting with new recipes and techniques. Friends and family always encouraged me, saying I should turn my passion into a business. At first, I was hesitant. I knew that running a bakery wouldn’t be easy—it required hard work, long hours, and a lot of planning. But deep down, I wanted to take the risk.

Before opening my bakery, I spent several months preparing. I created a detailed business plan, outlining my goals, target customers, and financial projections. I saved enough money to cover my expenses for the first six months because I knew the beginning would be difficult. I also attended online courses in marketing and small business management to learn how to promote my brand and handle finances. I rented a small shop in a busy part of town and worked hard to design a cozy, welcoming space for customers. In January of last year, my bakery officially opened its doors.

The first few months were incredibly challenging. I woke up at 5 a.m. every day to prepare the dough and start baking. After opening the shop, I spent hours serving customers, cleaning, and managing orders. In the evenings, I handled paperwork, planned future menus, and updated the bakery’s social media accounts. On some days, I barely made enough money to cover costs, and I started questioning my decision. However, I refused to give up. I kept improving my recipes, introducing special promotions, and providing excellent customer service. Slowly but surely, things began to change.

By the summer, business had picked up. More and more people visited the bakery, and word of mouth brought in new customers. I started receiving large orders for birthday parties and weddings. One unforgettable moment was when a couple asked me to bake their wedding cake—it was a huge success and brought even more clients to the bakery. Another milestone was hiring my first employee. Having someone to help me with baking and serving meant I could focus on growing the business.

Today, my bakery is thriving. I feel proud every time I see satisfied customers enjoying my cakes and pastries. Running my own business has been one of the most difficult yet rewarding experiences of my life. It taught me resilience, creativity, and the importance of believing in myself. If you are thinking about starting your own business, my advice is to plan carefully, work hard, and never stop learning. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but with determination and effort, anything is possible.
